Greek Islands

Greg Berryman and lady friend aboard SY Alegria cruising Corfu

Corfu

Dutch Marise at the helm; we originally met on Koh Samui a few years ago now.

En route from Thailand to visit family and freinds in the Netherlands, she stopped off on Corfu for a week of doing all things Greek aboard SY Alegria.

Lunch time

Many of the tavernas throughout the Greek Islands have their own jetty.

Allowing guests to anchor just offshore and arrive by dinghy.

And if you drink too much then you just stay the night at anchor.

At no cost.

The food is truly amazing!

Gaios, Capital of Paxos

The capital of Paxos is Gaios, a picturesque village built around a port protected by the two small islands of Agios Nikolas and Panagia.

Only intended to spend a few nights here as I was planning to sail further south to Naxos and beyond.

But stayed 3 months. Just loved this town!

This shot was taken just before returning to Monaco. For awhile I pretty much had the quay to myself.

Rewind 2 or 3 weeks and it was almost impossible to find a space unless you were already moored.

Many boats that arrived later in the day were directed to the other side of the island where they could anchor, and try again later next morning (when some boats were sure to have set sail.

Another welcoming Taverna

We spent a few days and nights here having met up with a sailing friend from the Cote d'Azur; who happened to be in the area.
